Round 18 Hunter Industrials Wrap Up

22 Aug 2017 by Geoffrey Zach

The Hunter Industrials Report:

The Thirds have stayed off a challenge from a bullish Endeavour Hills outfit to ensure a top four finish with one round remaining. In torrential rain and freezing conditions, the Yarras outlasted the Falcons in an at times, ugly affair. Despite tensions threatening to boil over on more than one occasion and the undisciplined Falcons having 3 players sent off during the match, the Yarras continued to put their head over the football and eventually came out on top, winning by 6 points. Paddy Johnson may as well have brought his own ball because he refused to let Endeavour Hills touch it, while both Brock and Kai, playing up forward, looked as though they were playing with a dry ball for most of the game. In typical fashion, the Wise brothers continued to unwisely put their bodies in harm’s way to win the footy. The Thirds final game of the home and away season will be against Hallam and will be played either at home or potentially away at Keysborough.

The Reserves needed a win and rely upon other results to attain third position. The Den was in its best condition of the season….muddy and wet. It didn’t take long for the ball to absorb some of the water off the deck and become swollen and difficult to kick with. Scarlo was in brilliant form kicking two goals. It wouldn’t be a Reserves match without naming the skipper as one of the Yarras’ better players. Well done Nicholas. The game was scrappy and goals were scarce. The Yarras remained goalless in the final quarter whilst Lyndhurst were able to score a goal with minutes remaining to win by four points. Despite some confusion with the Lyndhurst players, the Yarras will be playing an elimination final against BlackRock this Sunday, 27th August 2017.

Another season done and dusted for the seniors after other results didn’t go our way. The Yarras started well taking a 5 goal to 1 lead in to the first break, despite a 40+ point lead at the main break the game was a fiery affair with lots of spot fires. Finlayson continued his dominant year with 6 goals and a heap of the ball, Mahar was also very impressive. The game finished with a 10 goal victory, a shame that we won’t feature in September after the year begun with such promise but we move on to 2018.
