Bendigo Bank Wrap Up

The Yarras came into their preliminary final full of confidence on the back of their impressive semi-final win against Cheltenham. Skye Bombers had split the wins, one a piece in their regular season contests, but on the expansive Springvale Reserve, the Yarras had a slight advantage with the bookmakers leading into the match.

There were a few changes to the Yarra’s team from the previous week, most notably the return of the Evans brothers. All three brothers had a big influence on the game, especially James Evans down back, who made the Skye forwards look very slow. Paddy Johnson continued his impressive finals form, as did Brock, however he struggled with his goal kicking accuracy.

This was about the only thing keeping Syke in the contest and at three quarter time the Yarras were 7 goals up. A few free kicks + 50 metre penalties in the last quarter evened up the contest marginally, however the Yarras had all the running and cruised to a 20 point victory.

They’ll now take on Cerberus in the club’s only Grand Final appearance since 2009! The match will be played at 9:45am on Saturday 23rd September at Power Reserve, Doveton.
